Out on the ice April 2018 towards the north Pole
A wall stands before me where one didn’t stand before, it is made of ice, and today we fought very
hard against the packed ice and the cold. We are not Invincible to the temperature, icy wind is like a
cold sharp knife scraping on your cheeks this can also make you tiered, angry or sad, it can for some
be like piercing your heart but not for me, it’s giving me strength and it makes me alerted, ice can be
between life and death but it keeps you alive.
The ice is moving at all times and it has been pushed in to each other, built up over 20 m high ridges.
You think that sea ice is flat, but up here the ice is alive it is really wild sometimes this is a vast
Icy/snowy desert that we were going to conquer! Some think it’s a very quiet place, and it is but if
you listen closely it is a loud place with the cracking and moving ice, there is nothing like it.
Skiis came off and we lined up in the world of ice boulders and carried the pulkas, skiis and poles
over this area. The pressure ridge was approx. 20 high and 40 m wide and it took us 2 h 10 minutes
and a great teamwork to cross this pressure ridge. We looked up and a new ridge was just about to
be conquered!
