The Expedition

We will be the first all-women’s team and the first women of our nations to ski/kite to the Southern Pole of Inaccessibility.

What we will do

Traverse the large Antarctic plateau with two main objectives:

Objective 1

The first all female team to reach the Southern Pole of Inaccessibility

Arrive at the South Pole of Inaccessibility as the first all-female team to do so under our own power (using snowkiting and skiing).

Objective 2

Reach the South Pole

Travel from the South Pole of Inaccessibility to the Geographic South Pole (total distance: >2500km).

Objective 3

Work as a team on an unsupported mission

Carry all supplies in a pulka weighing 100-150kg, no outside assistance in a 50 day time frame.

Why we want to complete this expedition

Pre-Expedition Phase

Phase 1

Travel to Antarctica (Cape Town)

Using Ultima Antarctica as our logistics provider, we will fly from Cape Town to Novo runway in northeastern Antarctica.

Phase 2

Travel to Thorshammer

We will then finish our preparations with the team at Ultima Antarctica before being transported to our starting point. This is a well-known starting point for ski and kite expeditions in this region at an altitude of 2400m.

Having experienced the unrelenting harshness of the Antarctic plateau, I recognise the enormity of the challenge that Nia and Ida are taking on.

The Antarctic Valkyries’ expedition is bold and daring, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in polar exploration. I’ll be following in awe as the wind carries them south — with a message of empowerment and inspiration.

"I cannot wait to follow The Antarctic Valkyries with my girls. Thank you for inspiring the next generation of explorers and for inspiring this cranky, under slept and slightly pudgy (read expedition ready) dad to think about his next adventure”
